Matamata Racing Club
Located a mere two kilometres south of the Waikato township of Matamata, the Matamata Racing Club stands as a cornerstone of New Zealand’s thoroughbred racing scene. Established in 1919, this left-handed racecourse has evolved into a premier racing and training hub, renowned for its picturesque setting and state-of-the-art facilities.
The club boasts a comprehensive training centre, accommodating over 700 horses and approximately 60 trainers daily. Its facilities include grass, plough, sand, and all-weather tracks, as well as a swimming pool, schooling fences, and modern training aids.These resources have contributed to the success of many prominent trainers and horses on both national and international stages.
Throughout the racing season, the Matamata Racing Club hosts a variety of events, including the prestigious Group 2 J Swap Contractors Ltd Matamata Breeders’ Stakes and the Team Wealleans Matamata Cup.The club also features a versatile function centre, offering a unique venue for weddings, corporate events, and community gatherings.
Under the leadership of General Manager Regan Donnison, the Matamata Racing Club continues to uphold its rich heritage while embracing innovation, ensuring its place at the heart of New Zealand's racing community.
