The Lake House Art Centre
Lake House Arts Centre is a creative community hub in Takapuna, bringing together visual arts, heritage, education and local connection within a distinctive historic setting. Managed by the Lake House Trust, the centre provides an inclusive place where artists, learners, families and community groups can take part in exhibitions, classes, events and cultural activities.At the heart of the site is the historic Lake House, a late nineteenth-century heart-kauri building that was moved from its original location near Takapuna Beach to Barry’s Point Reserve in 1996. Two restored Fort Cautley Army Barracks also form part of the complex, creating additional spaces for galleries, studios, workshops, meetings, private functions and community gatherings.
Visitors can view regularly changing exhibitions, join art classes, attend creative programmes or learn more about the property’s story through guided heritage experiences. Courses and activities are available for both adults and children, covering a range of artistic media and supported by experienced tutors.
The surrounding gardens provide an attractive backdrop for outdoor activities and special occasions, while the onsite café offers a relaxed place to enjoy coffee, lunch and a menu influenced by Egyptian, Lebanese, Turkish and New Zealand cuisine.
